An Account Summary Report summarises the movements in client accounts (e.g. the Income Tax Account, Integrated Client Account etc) over a given period, usually the last financial year.  The Account Summary Report provides:

  • A clear snapshot of the opening and closing balances on an accruals basis of the individual client accounts and the total of all client accounts;
  • A clear snapshot of the movement in the client accounts (such as tax liabilities, payments, penalties, interest etc);
  • The ability to drill down into specific client accounts to see the detail of what makes up the movement in the account on a line by line basis; and

A Penalty & Interest Report summarises the penalties, interest income and interest expense in client accounts (e.g. the Income Tax Account, Integrated Client Account etc) over a given period, usually the last 5 financial years (including the current financial year).  The Penalty & Interest Report provides:

  • A clear snapshot of the net penalties, interest income and interest expense for each year, including which client accounts they relate to;
  • A clear snapshot of the combined running total of the net penalties, interest income and interest expense across all client accounts; and
  • An Excel Reconciliation Workpaper from which you can reconcile:
    • the net penalties for each financial year to financial statements;
    • the net interest income for each financial year to financial statements; and
    • the net interest expense for each financial year to financial statements.

Simply run the particular report you want (e.g. the Activity Statement Report) from the Taxpayers webpage and from the report click on the “Generate Excel Reconciliation Report” button.

Alternatively, you can generate multiple Reconciliation Workpapers at once (either for one taxpayer or multiple taxpayers) from the Batch Reports webpage.

The Activity Statement Report Reconciliation Workpapers contain an “Instructions” tab which will guide you through the process to integrate the Activity Statement Report Reconciliation Workpapers into your existing Excel workpapers (under the heading “Standardised Excel output”).

Currently, the Account Summary Report and the Penalty & Interest Report don’t provide standardised Excel output to integrate with existing Excel workpapers.
